How much exercise do you prescribe?

Bismillah, alhamdulillah

An interesting call to action to prescribe something free and highly beneficial – exercise. There are a few patients where I currently work who manage to walk a fair amount but those who regularly exercise are uncommon. This is in contrast to my last job which was serving a university community. The levels of exercise participation were amazing. Maybe the secret to having a cardiivascularly fit way of life is to have an academic job! In my current job I have tried telling my patients about a 4 minute exercise morning routine but I rarely actually write a prescription for exercise, perhaps I should start.

Have a listen and share your consulting tips.

Who was Dr Alzheimer?

Bismillah, alhamdulillah:

A fascinating Eye Witness documentary from the BBC which traces the original case that Dr Alzheimer, a German psychiatrist, described. Parts of the long case history are nicely dramatised. The initial sign of dementia in this case was jealousy. Dr Alzheimer realised that he was to an unusual case and something that could give him fame.

The female patient was under his care  for 5 years after which she died and her brain was histologically examined and showed the plaques of Alzheimer’s disease. He presented the case in 1905 and died in his early 50’s, the same age his patient was diagnosed with the disease.
